This original oil on canvas painting is dated 1834. The size is 69.1 x 95.5 inches. It is located in The National Gallery of Art, Washington, Chester Dale Collection, 1963. The Forest of Fontainebleu was previously an aristocratic hunting terrain for kings and emperors, but in the 19th century it became an attraction for many tourists and artists. The Forest lies 35 miles or so southeast of Paris.
